By Loring Wirbel | January 19, 2012
Texas Instruments Inc. went to the recent Consumer Telematics Show and Consumer Electronics Show with new system-level reference designs for comprehensive automotive infotainment systems. The designs combine the DSP-intensive Jacinto C6000 processors with TI’s popular OMAP processors. Customers can use either one or the other processor, depending on the graphics and signal-processing requirements of the auto dashboard system.
The processor suites support 3D graphics with 1080p resolution, supporting rear-seat entertainment as well as dashboard displays, through in-car networks such as WiLink 7.0 and BlueLink 7.0. The processors support HTML5 protocols, which allow automobile manufacturers to upgrade infotainment feature sets during the life of the vehicle.
TI provides a comprehensive software environment for automotive applications, including full QNX and Linux development tools.
